What the pirates wore as part of their costume

Friday, January 28th, 2011

The pirate costume was loud and colorful for males and females. What boy’s and girl’s pirate costumes have in common: The 3-cornered hat, black, with the sign of the crossbones and skull. Men’s hats were simpler than women’s, decorated with a feather. The women’s have rows of fancy laces and ribbons. The basic pirate crew wore only scarves and bandannas, no hats, displaying their lower rank.

Mens Halloween costumes were often the scary outfit guys wore to the Halloween parties or for taking the kids Trick or Treating. Favourites are Frankenstein and Dracula costumes, and Lord Voldemort ensemble together with the Joker costume. A good outfit in this genre is the zombie doctor, which is based around a set of surgical scrubs, and decaying body parts sticking out of the chest and the knee, together with a terrifying looking zombie mask.

Generic Mens Halloween Costumes

The traditional mens Halloween costume has become very popular recently. It is now taking the place from the scary costumes. These are often worn more than once a year giving good value for money. These costumes are suitable for many themes, but the mens pirate fancy dress offerings are the best known of all. They rose in public affection after the Pirates Of The Caribbean movies and are evolved form a brown jacket and trousers, a shirt with frills, boot covers, and a pirate’s hat.

Film theme costumes for halloween

We all love scary movies and horror film costumes are a fantastic way to dress up for Halloween. Everyone has their favourite horror movie and you can dress up as a character from your own favourite. You might be a Zombie freak, a Frankenstein fanatic or follower of Dracula. There are some great and unique movie themed Halloween costumes to choose from. We tend to think of the “baddies” as being male characters, but there are also plenty of wicked female characters featured in horror films and which are great for women’s fancy dress.

You could dress up as the mysterious and creepy Morticia Addams of the Addams family. You can wear a tight black gown with “tentacles” at the bottom. Add blood red lipstick, the whitest make-up, black eyeliner and a lblack wig and you will look the part of the famous wife of Gomez. The Addams family is surely one of the most famous and notorious fictional families ever. They are strange, rich and eccentric, delighting in all things macabre.

Another great female Halloween costume to choose is Catwoman. Black vinyl cat suits are available in the shops or you can order one off the web and you can find accessories such as matching black masks, belts and gloves. You can buy yellow cat’s eyes contacts, which work well with feline fancy dress outfits and also add a twist to a Bat woman costume. Catwoman is a villainess we loves to hate. She is a main character in the Batman series of movies and starred in a spin-off series of her own. There is also a Catwoman’s outfit, a skintight catsuit, sometimes takes some searching to find it, because it was popular in the 90s. The costume then evolved into a black PVC catsuit when Michelle Pfeiffer played the part of Catwoman.

Pirate costumes and the Caribbean

The film industry discovered its pot of gold with Pirates of the Caribbean. Captain Jack Sparrow is found at every door on Halloween. Historically pirates spoke of adventure, danger, and excitement on the high seas. Commanding your own ship, with cannons firing and plunder treasures. Add the extra ingredients of blue tropical skies, white sandy beaches and hidden treasure. Who would not dream the life of a pirate?

Pirates have made a big comeback in the last few years, and costume manufacturers have catered to the demand with elaborate fancy dress outfits. From Jack Sparrow to lacy female captains, you’ll re-enact the glamorous life on a sailing vessel, even just for one evening. Here’s a few ideas to help you along the way:

Buccaneer:buccaneers are close to the idea of a pirate: the English crown financed escaped slaves, mercenaries and rogues to fight against her enemies. Attacking ships and towns, buccaneers lived an independent democratic existence, voting for captains and dividing the plunder. Many of them had bases and a few lucky ones retired as wealthy merchants.
A good look is a puffed white or shirt, overcoat, black boots, a sword and eye patch. They had their own type of sword, the boucan, with a curved end, used for hunting.

If you dress as Jack Sparrow, include a white puffed shirt, sash, and boot covers. Dress in blue trousers and leather boots. Add an overcoat, cutlass and scabbard, and a pirate hat with beaded braids. Grow a moustache, and complete yourself with makeup and mascara.
