Discover treasure inside a cannon ball
Insert a necklace into a balloon. Then blow up the balloon. Have one for each one of your guests.
When all is ready start the game by asking everyone to try and crush the black cannon balls to discover their hidden treasure.
This will keep them going until the last participant has managed to burst his or her balloon.
One Black Balloon

Gold Nuggets

To get ready for this one, wrap a chocolate bar in gold foil wrapping paper.
Next wrap it up gain with another treat and keep doing this until you have a very large package contianing a prize for everyone

Now we use the old party favorite, Pass the Parcel.
When the music stops the holder removes one layer of wrapping and keeps the chocolate bar.
Now when the musics starts again, the package continues on round the circle.
You can control it so that everyone gets a prize by swtiching on and off the music at just the right time.

Tick Tock
All kids sit in a circle and one person is the clock.
She steps around the circle gently tapping each in the shoulder saying
“Tick”.
The game is that when she decides to say “Tock”, that child must jump up and chase after her and
try to catch her before she gets back to her empty space in the circle.
If he manages to catch the ticker, he takes his turn to be the clock.

At the end of the party it is time for the birthday person to open each present.
So have each child sit with their present in front of them, then spin
a bottle ( meant to be a pirate’s spy glass)
As the bottle points to each person, the party person opens that present.
Do this until all presents are opened. It is so much better than having a free-for-all when all presents get opened
and everyone is buzzing around, which is generally very chaotic.

Pirate costumes and the Caribbean

Monday, September 7th, 2009

The film industry discovered its pot of gold with Pirates of the Caribbean. Captain Jack Sparrow is found at every door on Halloween. Historically pirates spoke of adventure, danger, and excitement on the high seas. Commanding your own ship, with cannons firing and plunder treasures. Add the extra ingredients of blue tropical skies, white sandy beaches and hidden treasure. Who would not dream the life of a pirate?

Pirates have made a big comeback in the last few years, and costume manufacturers have catered to the demand with elaborate fancy dress outfits. From Jack Sparrow to lacy female captains, you’ll re-enact the glamorous life on a sailing vessel, even just for one evening. Here’s a few ideas to help you along the way:

Buccaneer:buccaneers are close to the idea of a pirate: the English crown financed escaped slaves, mercenaries and rogues to fight against her enemies. Attacking ships and towns, buccaneers lived an independent democratic existence, voting for captains and dividing the plunder. Many of them had bases and a few lucky ones retired as wealthy merchants.
A good look is a puffed white or shirt, overcoat, black boots, a sword and eye patch. They had their own type of sword, the boucan, with a curved end, used for hunting.

If you dress as Jack Sparrow, include a white puffed shirt, sash, and boot covers. Dress in blue trousers and leather boots. Add an overcoat, cutlass and scabbard, and a pirate hat with beaded braids. Grow a moustache, and complete yourself with makeup and mascara.
