Grown ups usually pick the black-and-white costumes.
A new trend this time round with infants and toddlers are dinosaurs and lions furry outfits. Boys,on the other hand, prefer GI Joe and transformers.

Although women initially look for witch costumes, we are now seeing pirate costumes for both men and women being picked.

Zombies also seem to be a national trend according to one major survey.Usually such a trend is down to a new tv show and the hit series “The Walking Dead” could be the market driver.

Up to 2.5 million people have said they will wear zombie costumes this Halloween.
Nevertheless, previously established characters such as Captain Jack Sparrow in his various pirate costumes are perennially popular and we expect this to become more and more established, particularly as the styles associated continue to be re created with exciting interpretations appearing constantly on the retail scene.

6 Costumes for kids including pirate costume ideas

Friday, October 14th, 2011

As a parent you will know what it is like with your kids getting all excited about Halloween which is coming up soon. My way with my kids is just to let them dress up as the characters of their choice rather than me telling them what they are going to be. So my son has again chosen Star wars and my daughter a disney princess. Maybe you have heard of Lava Girl from the movie Shark boy. The trouble is I can’t find a Lava Girl costume anywhere. Except if I want to pay well over $100.

Anyway to help give you ideas I have formed a list of 5 different outfits for girls that are not run of the mill.

  1. Lava Girl . She has the power and strength to help all mankind. This one is going to require you to make the costume yourself, based on researching images on the internet.
  2. Anne of Green Gables. So here my idea is to seek characters from the world of literature. Again You dont necessarily find them in ordinary costumes shops, but can you images how much this costume could stand out at a party? You have them images from various dramatisations on t.v. All you have to do is put some pieces together to form the outfit.
  3. Hermione Grainger from Harry Potter– This one is more commercial because of the longevity of the film series. The outfit is  stocked at Target and your local costume shop. Your daughter can become a smart witch for Halloween.
  4. Pirate costume–A forgotten character here is  Elisabeth Swann from the movie Pirates of the Caribbean. You could swap in a strong Pirate girl costume for the role. Or borrow from  history and make your pirate Anne Bonny , a very real tough , female pirate from long ago. What a pleasant change to have a well known female pirate as opposed to Jack sparrow, who we never stop hearing about or seeing.
  5. Princess Leia of Star Wars – If your child is into Star Wars, take it on board fully. She could become a Jedi if she wants to.
    Superhero –
Perhaps it is time to revisit the characters we grew up with as kids ourselves. So lets leave the princesses behind for a moment and pick up these old comic books. You will remember Batwoman, Superwoman and Wonderwoman. Great characters from the past.

Pirate costumes continue to influence local events

Sunday, July 17th, 2011

The pirate costumes theme continues to catch the imagination local event organisers throughout the country. In Willington Riverfront park, a historical celebration brought together historical characters including pirate’s buccaneers and landlubbers.

The event included a pirate parade and a costume contest among others. For those not willing to wear a pirate costume many wore pirate hats and black boots. It appears that when you wear such an outfit you experience what it was like to be a pirate back in the day.

Historical story tellers told the gatherers that pirates initially started their lives as sailors, and they were very good ones too. A pirate’s ship consisted of many skilled members with their own role to play in the running and sailing of the vessel. It was a well co-ordinated operation.
In the medical part of the ship the equipment used was also presented. These would typically have been used for limb amputations and instruments for boring in the skull.

A second event is planned in Tybee Island and the marketing text is in ancient English
“Hello me hearties. Head ye to the post of Tybee for a pirates party. Wear the best pirate costume ye can find. Gather ye some swashbucklers to join in ye event.
Tis’ the start of a weekend and includes a scallywags costume event for the best dressed one of our folk.”
